Text Box: Artwalk goes one for two	Sarnia Observer June 7, 2010

One of the vendors who enjoyed Saturday was Walter Peper, who brought his chainsaw with him. Behind yellow caution tape in the alley by the Imperial Theatre, the Forest carpenter carved a large piece of cedar for spectators. "It's just a hobby," Peper said. Nearby on the sidewalk, next to a display for his company Peper Mint Construction, sat a few of his finished pieces. They included a moose in the Mountie suit and a piece, titled "Pair of Giving Hands," Peper is donating to be displayed outside the Good Shepherd Lodge opening on Confederation St.
Born in Germany, Peper lived in Africa for several years where he came to appreciate the carving he saw there. This was his first year participating in Artwalk, the two-day
festival that draws arts and crafts vendors and thousands of spectators to the downtown. "It's a great event," Peper said Saturday. "It's a lot of people. I'm amazed."

New Carpenter Builds Business Sarnia Observer May 8, 2010

Forest—With 33 years experience as a carpenter, Walter Peper decided to start his own business, offering his customers everything from new log homes to renovations, and from handsome wood carvings to fieldstone fireplaces,. “I was born in Germany and learned carpentry there,” says Peper, 49, “I lived in Africa 20 years ago and started appreciating the carving that I saw there, so I learned how to do that.”
He’s also been trained in the construction of round log homes and square timber log homes, two styles he particularly enjoys building. For six years, Peper worked for a local contractor before branching out on his own with Peper Mint Construction.
“I was a bit scared to start out in the fall and I wondered if I’d have enough work through the winter,” he said. “In fact, I am getting a lot of jobs because of the combination of skills I offer.” Until now, word-of-mouth has kept him busy, primarily with renovations. “I’ve been in carpentry all my life and I will tackle just about any job,” Peper said. “ So far this year, I’ve done a lot of bedroom and bathroom renovations and right now I am working on a big, elaborate deck.”
Soon, an example of Peper’s chainsaw carving will be on display outside the new Inn of the Good Shepherd homeless shelter on Confederation St. He is donating a five-foot-long carving of a pair of hands. Peper will also be demonstrating at the upcoming artwalk in downtown Sarnia.
